The CONSEP trial: Implementing screening for a hidden cause of hypertension
Purpose:
One in 3 adult Australians have high blood pressure (HBP) and 10% of them have a condition called primary aldosteronism (PA). PA makes HBP hard to control and leads to strokes, heart attacks and kidney failure. While easy to detect with a blood test, GPs hardly ever order this test to check for PA in patients with HBP.
CONSEP will test a new strategy to help GPs find patients living with PA, opening the door to better outcomes for those living with this very treatable condition.
