PBS Program Name:
NHMRC 22/23 1.1 Health and Medical Research
Grant Program:
Investigator Grants
Grant Activity:
Optimising peripheral intravenous catheter access to treat infection
Purpose:
Most hospital patients have an IV (intravenous catheter) inserted upon admission to deliver antibiotics. IVs, however, are prone to failure which can lead to treatment delays. My research will explore strategies to improve IV integrity through testing better devices and building a team of highly skilled staff to select and insert IVs most suited to their patient’s needs. We expect our work will improve patient outcomes and health system efficiency by reducing hospital length of stay.
