Grant Activity:
Development of a rapid, point of care test with high sensitivity for the diagnosis of sepsis based on detection of CD64
Purpose:
There is an urgent, unmet need for improved point of care (POC) tests for detection of sepsis, which affects greater than 30 million and kills greater than8 million people worldwide each year. We have developed a new method for analysis of CD64, a host biomarker that is up-regulated as part of the innate immune response in sepsis. This new method shows greatly improved sensitivity for detection of sepsis patients versus controls, and will form the basis for development of a simple, lateral-flow POC test for sepsis.
