Grant Program:
Koala Conservation and Protection
Grant Activity:
Allambi Retreat Koala Habitat Protection and Expansion
Purpose:
The continued growth and urban development of South East Queensland makes it more important than ever to protect, maintain and grow Koala habitats in rural and semi-rural areas. Allambi retreat in Cedar Creek is 45 minutes from Brisbane City and has amazing potential to protect Australias wildlife for years to come, as it contains Matters of State Environmental Significance, such as Koala core habitat and threatened wildlife, such as Tusked Frogs and Death Adders. Allambi Retreat covers 107 acres of native vegetation and has an 800m border that connects to the forest directly from the McDowalls Road Reserve through a habitat corridor to Cedar Creek through some amazing Eucalyptus forest and mountains. There are regular Koala sightings at Allambi Retreat, especially during mating season, which are all registered by the owners of the land (project applicant) with Pine Rivers Koala Rescue. Koalas are regularly monitored for health, and those that look sick or injured are taken to the Pine Rivers Wildlife Hospital for treatment and to help the population avoid disease transfer. With careful planning and a lot of hard work, Allambi Retreat can serve as a core Koala habitat area where their population can increase and thrive
