Grant Activity:
The Internet of Things: Maximising the benefit of deployment in Australia
Purpose:
As the internet of things (IoT) is further developed, not only will enterprise and industry be transformed, but so too will be the way we interact with each other and the world around us. For Australia to thrive through such transformation, it must examine the opportunities, risks and consequences of IoT and establish ways to foster technological leadership while ensuring responsible deployment. This Horizon Scanning study will take an interdisciplinary approach to explore the economics, social and cultural change, education needs, governance requirements and technological standards. With findings tailored to support responsible deployment, this report will inform decision making for the coming decade. Its overall purpose is to provide the Chief Scientist and the NSTC with an objective, independent, evidence–informed reference outlining the current state of knowledge, future opportunities and critical gaps to support decision–making processes. The project will be delivered using an approach that ensures an appropriate project scope is defined and agreed by a scoping group (SG, comprising the Expert Work Group, representatives of ACOLA, the Office of the Chief Scientist, the Department of Infrastructure, Regional Development and Cities, and the Department of Communications and the Arts) and that a draft report undergoes evaluation by external independent peer reviewers and the ACOLA Board.
