Bunggul: Djarimirri (Child of the Rainbow) Live
Purpose:

‘Bunggul: Djarimirri (Child of the Rainbow) Live’ will be a free outdoor spectacular performance of the final album from multi-award-winning Northern Territorian musician Gurrumul. ‘Bunggul’ will combine Yolgnu dance and songlines with multi-media and orchestral interpretation. Darwin Symphony Orchestra will perform ‘Djarimirri’ under the conductorship of Erkki Veltheim, a long-time collaborator of Gurrumul who arranged the orchestral elements of ’Djarimirri’. Gurrumul’s voice will be mixed into the musical score, with traditional Elcho Island Yolgnu dancers performing to ancient song lines. The performance will feature guest singers, including Gurrumul’s brother Johnno Yunupingu, and will be backed by a local community choir.
