Grant Activity:
Reconstructing the megakaryocyte lipidome to control platelet production: Applications for thrombocytopenia or thrombocytosis
Purpose:
Platelets are cell fragments critical for blood clotting. Too few, results in bleeding disorders and too many, can block blood supply to organs. Both are life threatening. Current treatments are limited and have side effects. There is an urgent need to identify new ways to counteract both extreme conditions. We recently identified important lipids that are needed for platelet production. Here, we aim to increase or decrease these lipid levels to determine if we can control platelet production.
