Grant Activity:
Wanggajarli Burugun (We are coming Home) exhibition
Purpose:

Wanggajarli Burugun is a touring exhibition that tells a multi-perspective story of the removal of ancestral remains from Yawuru country of the southwest Kimberley during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and their return and repatriation, commencing in 2019. It tells of a shared history between the communities of Yawuru (Australia) and Saxony (Germany). A primary focus is the story of Aboriginal pearlshell divers whose remains were 'collected' and sold to a German museum in the 1890s, and their return to a final resting place in Broome. It is a shared story that aims to reconcile this traumatic past
