The objective of this grant opportunity is to fund the 2019 Our Watch Award for Excellence in Reporting on Violence Against Women and Children. This is a one-off grant and will be allocated on a non-competitive basis to fund the 2019 Award.

The Our Watch Award recognises excellence in journalism that contributes to a deeper understanding of violence against women and their children. The Awards were established in 2015 and are run in partnership with the Walkley Foundation. The Awards provide opportunities to raise awareness of best practice reporting, influence positive reporting on this issue, and encourage networking among journalists.

This activity contributes to the achievement of the Department’s Outcome 1: Promote an innovative and competitive communications sector, through policy development, advice and program delivery, so all Australians can realise the full potential of digital technologies and communications services. It does so by rewarding and recognising the role communications activities play in Australian life, including responsible reporting on significant issues.

This grant provides $50,000 (excl. GST) in 2019?20 to the Our Watch organisation. The grant amount will be provided as a lump sum, and is non-negotiable. Our Watch are expected to deliver on the program outcomes provided for under the grant agreement. It is expected Our Watch will procure event services from the Walkley Foundation to administer the Awards.
