Grant Activity:
Using Polygenic Risk Scores to Target Statin Therapy in Primary Prevention
Purpose:
Calculation scores by examining multiple genes predict the chance of having a heart attack. It is unknown whether they can guide use of treatments to prevent heart attacks. This clinical trial will determine whether statins, medications commonly used to lower cholesterol, will have a protective effect on the growth of plaques within blood vessels, in patients with different levels of polygenic risk. The findings will help to define how to best use polygenic risk scores in clinical practice.
