Purpose:
We will establish and evaluate, Australia's 'Birthing on Country' very remote, demonstration site in Galiwin'ku, Elcho Island, Northern Territory. We will redesign maternal and infant health services for Yol?u (Aboriginal) families who currently have one of the highest proportions of babies being born too soon (preterm) in Australia (22 percent versus 7 percent non-Indigenous Australians). Djäkamirrs' (Indigenous doulas) will increase support for women to modify risk factors and reduce preterm birth by 50 percent.
