PBS Program Name:
DCCEEW 21/22 Reducing Aus Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Grant Program:
Soil Carbon and Methane
Grant Activity:
The effect of Asparagopsis on emissions and productivity of Angus cattle
Purpose:
The objective of this project is to measure the effect of Asparagopsis armata, a commercially-available low emission feed technology, on greenhouse gas emissions, productivity, carcass characteristics, beef palatability, and consumer value perceptions of Angus cattle fed in a large, commercial feedlot. This project will deliver the answers to major questions the feedlot and beef industries need to evaluate this technology prior to commercial adoption. This project is powered to detect differences in the major outcome variables including enteric methane production, dry matter intake, average daily gain, hot carcass weight, feed conversion ratio, marbling, meat colour, tenderness, juiciness, palatability, and consumer perceptions of value.
