Novel nanoscale theranostic applications of porphysomes in atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease
Purpose:
Heart disease is the leading cause of death world-wide. We will test multipurpose nanoparticles for their ability to detect and prevent the build-up of fatty material in the blood vessels of the heart that causes heart attack. These studies aim to identify a new therapy that more effectively reduces heart disease than conventional lipid-lowering therapies by using a targeted approach that sensitively detects and specifically corrects the accumulation of the fatty material in heart vessels.
