Powering Communities
Grant Activity:
Solar for Great Lakes Art Society Inc. and Great Lakes Bridge Club Inc.
Purpose:
The Powering Communities Program grant will enable Great Lakes Art Society and the Great Lakes Bridge Club to:– Upgrade equipment to reduce energy consumption. A green catch switch will be fitted to improve the power use efficiency of the hot water heater which supplies both organisations. The HWS is one of the biggest contributors to power use in the building. The switch constantly monitoring solar production and loads. It detects surplus solar (solar that would have been exported) and diverts that amount of energy to your hot water tank. If there isn't enough surplus solar, CATCH will mains power (off–peak) to make sure your water stays hot. Invest In On–site Renewable Energy And Solar–connected Batteries. Use a CEC accredited installer to upgrade the shared electricity circuit board to enable the installation of install 6.16kW systems to each of the Art Society and the Bridge Club. Additional solar capacity will be added to the current Great Lakes Bridge Club system which currently does not meet its power needs. The Art Society does not currently have solar power. We made a collective decision to use Enphase micro inverter technology because:– 1. We can add to the systems as our needs increase as the population of the LGA increases. The population is expected to increase by 23% over the next 15 years, however, a sudden influx of city dwellers due to the anxieties of the COVID pandemic has probably increased that number. As both groups offer leisure activities suitable for older people, it is expected that our member numbers will grow accordingly. The need for electricity for cooling will increase due to climate change which will increase the demand for electricity. 2. The Enphase brand has good warranties and is a global company. It was started in 2006 and has continued to grow and be a popular brand. The products that are to be installed use sound and adaptable technologies. (See brochures attached to quote).
