Advanced Rider Assistance Systems for Improved Road Safety of Motorcyclists
Purpose:
Grant funding will build an integrated, hazard triaging motorcycle rider assistance platform that leverages new sensing technologies in computer vision and machine learning to identify ambient objects, road hazards, or conditions in real-time and instantly communicate external hazard information through visual display and sound within the helmet in a safe manner. The project will build on existing literature on rider perception to generate new knowledge on evidence-based guidance for smart-helmet systems by taking into account the limitations that constrain a riders ability to process and respond to incoming information.
