Grant Activity:
Enabling remote screening of childhood hearing loss using artificial intelligence
Purpose:
Children born in Australia are tested to check if they have a hearing loss. This newborn screening doesn't pick up some forms of hearing loss and can't detect a hearing loss that only appears later in life. This project will create a smartphone app parents can use to record their child speaking to check if they may have a hearing loss. The app will provide a simple way for parents, health workers, and teachers to help make sure all children with hearing loss are diagnosed as soon as possible.
