Purpose:
This study will be the first long term study to provide insight into the structure and function of microbial communities of Antarctic seabirds, their diseases and the impact of pathogens on host physiology and life histories. In addition, this project will examine the zoonotic pathogens associated with seabirds that could pose significant disease risk to humans working in the Antarctic environment.
