Purpose:
Esteemed Darwin based curator Dr. Wendy Garden has aligned two of the Territory’s
most revered artists, Franck Gohier and Therese Ritchie, in an exhibition ‘Some Like it Hot’
reflecting upon gender trouble in the tropics. Both artists consider the performative nature
of gender, tracing the intersection between desire and discord in Australia’s hottest and
most remote capital city. Both have recently had celebrated solo exhibitions at MAGNT.
This exhibition, including painting, printmaking and photography, considers their
work in a new light, further consolidating their place as significant Australian artists and
acknowledging their substantial contribution to the national artistic dialogue.
