MRFF Research Grants
Grant Activity:
Necessary steps to advance a pluripotent stem cell-derived tissue repair therapy to the clinic for stroke
Purpose:
Despite great hope for stem cell therapies for stroke, clinical trials to date have largely failed due to a focus on safety at the expense of evidence of preclinical efficacy. We recently showed that human stem cell grafts could restore limb function in a stroke model. This study will now preform a series of iterative, necessary preclinical optimisation, safety and functionality testing of a stem cell product suitable for a Phase I clinical trial in stroke patients.
