Purpose:
Agrimix Pastures have developed agronomically adapted lines of Desmanthus suited to the soils of northern Australia. Research has demonstrated the potential for Desmanthus to reduce enteric methane emissions from cattle under experimental conditions. Desmanthus has been associated with increased live weight gain, soil fertility and soil carbon sequestration. This project will use experimental studies on farm measurements and bioeconomic modelling to quantify the enteric methane mitigation, net greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions balance, livestock and pasture production, and economic benefits at the whole farm level. Our findings will be prepared in accordance with incorporation into a new livestock emissions reduction framework.
