This ad hoc grant activity will be a partnership with Rugby Australia and Samoa Rugby to strengthen people-to-people links between Australia and Samoa in the sport of rugby union. The activity will invole a high-profile package of work to enhance Australia's relationships and standing in Samoa, leveraging the planned Wallabies vs Samoa Test Match in Sydney on 7 September 2019. DFAT's assistance will amplify the diplomatic outreach and impact of the game including; (a) funding for Samoa’s team travel to Sydney to compete in the match; (b) support for Pacific broadcast of the match; and (c) a promotional visit to Samoa by high-profile Wallabies players ahead of the match. The visit to Apia will include participation in high-profile diplomatic functions, delivery of training clinics with emerging Samoan rugby players, speaking events and attendance at a Samoan rugby carnival, with a particular focus on promoting girls in rugby.
