Grant Activity:
Precision Diagnosis for the Remaining 50 percent of Unsolved Developmental and Epileptic Encephalopathies
Purpose:
Devastating epilepsies known as developmental and epileptic encephalopathies are caused by abnormalities in over 300 genes, yet 50 percent of patients remain unsolved. Patients have uncontrolled seizures, developmental impairment and a high risk of early death. We will employ innovative strategies and the latest technologies to reveal hidden causes in the remaining 50 percent of patients, and correlate these findings with their clinical symptoms, increasing diagnostic yield beyond 70 percent by 2025.
