Purpose:
Cancer surgery aims to completely remove tumour while minimising the removal of healthy tissue. Currently, complete tumour removal can only be assessed by a pathologist after surgery, with up to 30% of patients requiring repeat surgery because tumour is thought to have been left behind. This project is developing a high-resolution imaging tool for surgeons to use during operations to assess tissue micro-structure and enable complete tumour removal during the first surgery.
