Grant Activity:
Towards the understanding of the immunopathogenesis of autoantibody-mediated systemic diseases: new approaches to old problems
Purpose:
Autoantibodies and white cells called B cells are found in systemic autoimmune diseases such as lupus. These are normally present in healthy individuals but a series of failed checkpoints enable them to go “rogueâ€, damage host tissue and cause debilitating symptoms. Understanding their molecular signatures will allow me to understand the processes that occur that lead to autoimmunity. This will help create personalised therapies for patients to “eliminate†these rogue populations.
