Purpose:
This proposal addresses Phase 1 of a study of the potential for a rare earth separation production facility to increase the downstream processing capacity in Australia. The study will consider mixed rare earth chemical concentrates as feed stock and has the following objectives:
i) Review technologies that are applicable to rare earth separation;
ii) Carry out an option study considering different options for throughput and feed composition;
iii) Develop process design criteria for preferred rare earth separation plant applying ANSTO developed proprietary modelling techniques to define the required circuits; and
iv) Outline capital and operating costs at Scoping Level for a separation plant.
