Grant Activity:
MET-MED Trial: A phase III randomised double-blind placebo-controlled trial of metformin for cognitive recovery and white matter growth in paediatric medulloblastoma patients.
Purpose:
Medulloblastoma is the most common brain cancer in children, requiring aggressive treatment to survive. Unfortunately, most patients are left with long-term brain damage, including memory and intellectual problems. Studies using metformin to promote brain repair have shown promising preliminary results. The MET-MED trial will be the first time metformin is comprehensively examined as a brain recovery agent in children diagnosed with medulloblastoma.
