Grant Activity:
Improving outcomes after high-risk surgery
Purpose:
Complications after operations are common and can result in chronic health problems or death. In this project, a large clinical trial will test whether treatment with a local anaesthetic drug, lidocaine, reduces the development of chronic pain one year after high-risk breast cancer surgery. Parallel studies will also assess the impact of enhanced ward monitoring after all types of high-risk operations and the role of inflammation in driving poor surgical outcomes.
