Bushfire Recovery for Species and Landscapes
Grant Activity:
Rehabilitation of Native Vegetation andWildlife Habitat after Bushfire
Purpose:
The 2019/2020 bushfires severely impacted several significant remnant vegetation sites and intense biodiversity areas within the Mount Barker District. Approximately 7700 hectares or 32% of the total fire ground occurred in the Mount Barker District, leaving the fire–affected areas exposed to severe weed infestation and loss of native flora. Wildlife has been displaced, experiencing loss of suitable habitat. Biodiversity is at risk of substantial and irreversible loss without recovery efforts such as weed control, seed collection and provision of habitat. By implementing these measures and recovering biodiversity, Mount Barker District Council can restore social, economic, cultural and environmental values through ecosystem services.
