Grant Activity:
Proteases and PAR2 are key mediators of cancer pain.
Purpose:
Oral cancer causes more severe pain than any other cancer. For most patients, uncontrolled pain reduces quality of life, preventing normal function. The pain intensity escalates with disease progression; terminal patients generally experience debilitating pain during their final months of life. This proposal aims to define the underlying mechanisms that promote oral cancer pain with the goal of identifying new therapies.
