Grant Activity:
Codon bias and the role of tRNA modifications in cancer
Purpose:
Cancer is characterised by high rate of cell growth and proliferation. Cancer cells need to increase their biomass to divide and this is dependent on the the synthesis of proteins. We have recently discovered that transfer RNAs, the small molecules carrying the building blocs required for protein synthesis, are chemicaly modified and that these modifications could be targeted to strongly inhibit tumour growth and progression in a wide array of cancers.
