Grant Activity:
Targeted therapies for vascular malformations
Purpose:
Vascular malformations are rare congenital lesions which can cause lifelong pain, deformity and diminished quality of life. The recent, surprising discovery that they arise through similar genetic mechanisms to many cancers, suggests that drugs already in the clinic for cancer treatment should be effective in these conditions. A 'precision medicine' approach will give children and adults with the most severe vascular malformations their first opportunity to benefit from a clinical trial.
