Patient Blood Management Project Grant:Prevention and management of bleeding in maternity patients to optimise patient outcomes
Purpose:
This research project aims to:
Reduce the burden on blood supply and improve patient outcomes in maternity and obstetrics through:
a) Objective 1: providing data on the use and safety of interventional radiology (IR) in obstetric conditions (such as morbidly adherent placenta) with a high risk of massive haemorrhage to guide its appropriate use;
b) Objective 2: providing evidence of platelet levels associated with increased risk of bleeding, and whether this differs according to the planned mode of birth; and
c) Objective 3: comparing outcomes of the use of red blood cells and intravenous (IV) iron in the treatment of anaemia following delivery.
