Grant Activity:
A gene-editing strategy for telomere-related bone marrow failure
Purpose:
A subset of inherited bone marrow failure (BMF) syndromes is caused by mutations in genes that protect the ends of chromosomes, or telomeres. The only curative therapy for BMF is bone marrow transplant, which has a high rate of mortality and complications. We will use the latest developments in gene editing of bone marrow stem cells to develop a strategy for correcting mutations in telomere-related genes in the patient’s own cells, providing a potentially curative therapy for inherited BMF.
