Grant Activity:
LED OVAL LIGHTING PROJECT
Purpose:
The main oval currently has some lighting (all less than 50 lux) that does not cover the entire oval and is not up to AFL or cricket standard lux levels. Due to the fact the lighting is of a poor standard and only covers some parts of the oval, it cannot be used for night games. The areas where the light reaches, are used for training at night but this results in those parts of the oval being disproportionately worn down from over use and not providing enough space for the increase in participation. The junior oval has no lighting. Install lighting to Australian Standards for the AFL oval, which is 100 lux average for competition and then to Cricket Australia recommendations for night cricket competition, which is 300 lux in the pitch square and 200 lux average over the remaining. To do this, a contractor will be engaged to supply and install 5 light poles with 52 lights to achieve those lighting levels, as per the below design plan. It is noted that consideration was given to using the existing poles but, according to lighting contractors, they are not suitable for the new proposed floodlights due to the condition of the current poles and the height that would be required to make the design compliant. Power usage will link into the existing solar panels, as well as a power supply upgrade being included in this project to enable the lighting to be installed.
