Ghost Nets Project
The purpose of the Grant is to fund the production of the ‘Ghost Nets’ art installation. This artwork provides a unique opportunity to tell the story of Torres Strait Islander contemporary culture through art. It highlights the efforts of Indigenous rangers in clearing Australia’s coastline of the dangers of ghost nets and tells an important story about ocean conservation. As an archipelago of many islands, this story will resonate with Indonesian audiences as well. The grant contributes to the achievement of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s policy objectives, including but not limited to Portfolio Budget Statement Outcome 1: Program 1.6: Public Information Services and Public Diplomacy.
The objectives of this grant are:
- Promote Australian history, culture, leadership and innovation to a range of Indonesian audiences.
- Strengthen positive associations towards Australia among audiences, leading to an increased interest in the country, and in taking future actions such as studying in or visiting Australia.
