Grant Activity:
Clonal haematopoiesis of indeterminate potential (CHIP) and its consequences for blood cancers, cardiovascular disease and stroke – the ASPREE-CHIP sub-study
Purpose:

Acquired genetic mutations normally associated with blood cancers like leukaemia can be detected in the blood or bone marrow long before any disease appears. Known as CHIP (clonal haematopoiesis of indeterminate potential), it is more common in older age, and has been associated with other health problems common in the elderly, like heart disease and stroke. We will study how common CHIP is, and its health consequences, in a large clinical trial of otherwise healthy people aged 70 or older.
