Purpose:
This study will identify unique near infrared spectroscopy spectral fingerprints for Plasmodium species and their intraerythrocytic stages in vitro and in vivo, elucidate chemical compounds associated with the spectral fingerprints and test the application of NIRS in diagnosing malaria in human subjects in the field.
