Construction of NSW Shellfish Hatchery
Purpose:
The project will see the construction of a state of the art hatchery facility to supply shellfish spat (babies) to the NSW oyster and mussel industry. The hatchery will incorporate, a shellfish nursery, land base nursery, training facilities, export packing facilities, R&D facilities and a tourist farm gate tours facility. This site will also house an Export Packing Facility for regional food producers. The Hatchery will supply oyster and mussel spat to local estuaries and other farmers in NSW and enhance exports to meet overseas demand. Domestically this will allow oyster farmers to plan and grow their farms sustainably and substantially increase staffing levels.
