Grant Activity:
MIR-1: A Conserved Gatekeeper of Protein Aggregation
Purpose:
The hallmark of degenerative diseases such as Huntington’s and Parkinson’s is the accumulation of toxic protein aggregates. We have identified a gene called mir-1 that protects animals against protein aggregation. Using genetic and biochemical approaches we will decipher how mir-1 is able to protect animals and mammalian cells from protein aggregation to potentially enable therapeutic strategies in the future.
