Grant Activity:
The long-term effectiveness of a peer-led lifestyle intervention program on diabetes progression and cardiovascular risk: the Kerala Diabetes Prevention Program in India.
Purpose:

To stem the growing epidemic of chronic diseases in rapidly developing countries like India that face significant resource constraints, prevention programs are needed in rural communities where most people still live. Currently, there is very little evidence known about how to do this. Our research team has already evaluated a novel community-based lifestyle intervention to prevent diabetes after 24 months in a high-risk Indian population. We now plan to further assess the outcomes at 7 years.
