Grant Activity:
Bacteriophage therapy increases antibiotic sensitivities in multiply antibiotic resistant Acinetobacter baumannii
Purpose:
The rapid emergence of antibiotic resistant bacteria is occurring worldwide. Research efforts to pursue alternative treatments are urgently needed. Bacteriophages (phages) are specialist viruses that infect and kill bacteria. The clinical use of phages to treat bacterial infections is termed ‘phage therapy’. We are investigating the use of phages to re-sensitise antibiotic-resistant bacterial infection to conventional antibiotics, allowing a novel combination treatment strategy.
