Grant Activity:
Structural basis for ribosomal docking on a picornavirus type I IRES
Purpose:
This project investigates the way in which the viruses are able to replicate themselves in host cells. We focus on the picornavirus family that cause illnesses with important health and economic consequences including serious heart infections such as myocarditis and pericarditis as well as the 'common cold'. Through detailed study of the molecular interactions involved in virus infection we will reveal new possible avenues of antiviral development.
