Grant Activity:
Ubiquitination-regulated sodium homeostasis in kidney disease
Purpose:
Diseases of the kidney are common amongst the population, but in most cases the underlying genetic defects that contribute to the pathology are not well understood. We have recently identified a previously unsuspected protein, Nedd4-2, which protects against kidney disease by inhibiting sodium reabsorption in the kidney. The work proposed will establish the impact of dietary salt on disease severity and investigate the mechanisms by which lack of Nedd4-2 results in kidney disease.
