Grant Activity:
Investigating the neuro-developmental role of schizophrenia-associated genes using the zebrafish.
Purpose:
Schizophrenia is a mental disorder affecting ~1 percent of the population. This disease has a high (~80 percent) genetic predisposition. Great progress has been made in identifying the genetic variants underlying this disorder. We have now reached the exciting step of validating these findings. We will take advantage of the fast-developing and optically accessible zebrafish brain to determine the normal and potential pathologic function of the most promising gene candidates.
