Investigating the extracellular transmission of ?-synuclein in Parkinson's disease
Purpose:
Parkinson’s disease is the most common neurodegenerative movement disorder. Recent evidence indicates that ?-synuclein, a major component of protein aggregates in Parkinson’s disease, can be transmitted from cell to cell in the brain. In this grant we will investigate a novel mechanism for this transmission and identify methods to prevent the spread of the disease. Findings from this work will identify new leads for therapeutic discovery for Parkinson’s patients.
