NHMRC 17/18 1.1 Health and Medical Research
Grant Program:
Project
Grant Activity:
Enhancing the anti-fibrotic and regenerative capacity of bone marrow-derived stem cells
Purpose:

Although a number of organs can repair themselves from mild injury, when subjected to ongoing/persistent injury, they fail to properly do so. As a result, they undergo organ scarring (fibrosis) and a progressive loss of function. As currently available therapies fail to effectively stop this scarring process, we aim to combine an anti-fibrotic agent (serelaxin) with bone marrow-derived stem cells to effectively block fibrosis and further improve tissue repair and function.
