Speckle Tracking Strain Echocardiography in the detection of Arrhythmogenic Substrates that lead to Sudden Cardiac Death
Purpose:
Sudden death or cardiac arrest occurs due to fatal heart rhythms. Narrowed heart arteries, heart muscle disease, or problems with electrical signalling in the heart are usual causes. Identifying at-risk patients is critical, but current methods are suboptimal. We propose that ultrasound technology called ‘strain echocardiography’ will allow early detection of various heart diseases that increase the vulnerability to sudden death or cardiac arrest, before overt disease develops.
