Grant Program:
Postgraduate Scholarships
Grant Activity:
Regulated necrosis in ischemia reperfusion injury.
Purpose:

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is an abrupt loss of kidney function, and is associated with an increased morbidity, mortality and healthcare costs. The leading cause of AKI is kidney ischemia reperfusion injury (IRI), which is a sudden reduction and subsequent restoration of blood flow to the kidney. This initiates inflammation and cell death. This project aims to better understand the pathways leading to cell death after kidney IRI. By blocking these pathways, we hope to prevent cell death and AKI.
