Grant Program:
Business Research and Innovation Initiative
Grant Activity:
Turning farm crops into renewable hydrogen source
Purpose:
The feasibility study will use cereal straw to produce high quality hydrogen for distributed ammonia production. In addition, the project will assess how to achieve the best balance of value streams from the process (biochar, heat, electricity, and carbon capture certificates), with an integrated system approach. The system is to be built around the unique ECHO2 pyrolysis technology of Rainbow Bee Eater, which is an established biomass–to–syngas technology. This will allow conceptual design to focus on the processes for the cleanup and purification of hydrogen. The process will be combined with a cost optimised approach to collecting cereal straw during grain harvest and storing and processing that straw.
