PBS Program Name:

Grant Program:
Powering Communities
Grant Activity:
Community Hub Solar Project
Purpose:
Funds from the Powering Communities grant will allow us to activate the Community Hub Solar Project which encompasses two high energy saving elements, both of which would be engaged through an approved solar and energy provider allowing us to provide improved energy production and aims to reduce our energy bills. The first element of the project involves the replacement and upgrade of 79 non–LED lighting with LED lighting and controls. Specifically, this will involve the professional removal our existing round down lighting and replacing with 79 LED Tri Eclipse energy efficient lighting. Our building, The Life Education Centre, which was built from funds raised from an NBN Telethon over 35 years ago, still maintains the existing lighting technologies of the time – as such are not only outdated, but high energy guzzling. The second element of the project will support the installation of 20 Mono Trina Vertex 390W Mono solar panels, providing solar energy generation and a monitoring system to observe our environmentally sustainable energy use. The investment in an energy monitoring and management system will not only significantly reduce our energy bills, but remove our reliance from traditional electricity technology to a truly renewable and sustainable energy source. By engaging an approved CEC–accredited installer, we will follow our project plan and activate each stage of the project according to the plan as outlined as well as providing updates against agreed project milestone. We have a strong history of project managing building improvements as a result of supportive government funding. As the Managers of the Crown Lands, we have undertaken a variety of project management activities to improve the community space and facilities that we offer to our Community Hub members. These include a major roof replacement project, green energy lighting installations in some areas of the building and COVID safe responsible business practices amongst others.
